Dr. Craig Ceecee, a meteorologist, painstakingly created and updated the Tornado Shelter Map to help the community stay safe. Even though there are likely shelters that are still unidentified, the map is updated very frequently. If you know of a shelter not included on the map, you can find Dr. Ceecee's email address on the website and send him the information.

The safest place to be in a home is the basement interior. If there is no basement, go to an inside room without windows on the lowest floor—a center hallway, bathroom, or closet.

For those of you who live in a mobile or manufactured home, have a safe place, or otherwise feel uncomfortable, you can likely find a tornado shelter near you using https://findyourtornadoshelter.com

✅ Decide where you will go to take shelter. A friend or relative's permanent house is a possibility. Make sure you can get in 24 hours a day.

✅ Time how long it will take to get to your shelter location so you know how long it will take to get there

✅ Always follow weather forecasts and purchase an NOAA weather radio. The radio will sound, alerting you to severe weather warnings 24 hours a day.

✅ Sign up for severe weather text messages and email alerts, and pay attention to weather alerts on Nextdoor.

✅ If you do not have time to get to your safe shelter, leave the mobile home and take cover in a ditch or low-lying area.

⚠️ WATCH = Stay alert & be ready to take shelter

⚠️ WARNING = Take shelter immediately in a safe place
