Tips to stay cool in dangerous heat

Heat is one of the leading weather-related killers in the United States, resulting in hundreds of fatalities yearly. Heat can be very taxing on the body. The best way to stay cool is to be inside with the ac running!

If you must be outside, limit strenuous activities, find shade, drink plenty of water, and take frequent breaks.

❄️ If you have AC and are willing to invite neighbors over so they can cool down, post to Nextdoor https://nextdoor.com/news_feed/?open_composer=true&hashtag=staycool to let neighbors know. ❄️

Please also note that young children and infants, older adults, particularly those with pre-existing conditions, people with chronic medical conditions, and pregnant women must take extra precautions.

If the AC is not working in your home, seek a local cooling center, and check to see if anyone nearby has offered to take neighbors in https://nextdoor.com/hashtag/staycool

Additional tips:

⚠️ Job Sites - Stay hydrated and, when possible, stay indoors and take breaks. More info at https://www.osha.gov/heat-exposure

⚠️ Vehicles - Never leave kids or pets unattended in your vehicles. LOOK before you LOCK

⚠️ Pets - Bring pets inside and ensure they have plenty of water.

If you have other tips, share them below in the comments, and kindly repost this message to your neighbors on Nextdoor by clicking the "Share" button/arrow below and then "Repost in newsfeed."
