Top 10 Vacation Safety Crime Prevention Tips
Everyone needs a vacation right now, but before you head off for some well-earned rest and relaxation, ensure you’ve got everything safe and secure at home, so you don’t need to worry while enjoying your time off.
There are some simple yet effective steps to take so you don’t come back to an undesirable and upsetting criminal act.
❗Put mail, newspapers, and packages on hold. If you do get packages delivered while you are away, ask a neighbor to take them in or provide a lockable parcel drop box
❗Set timers for lights and radios and ensure they are on at random times each day to create the illusion of someone being home. Make the most of your wifi home control device if you have one
❗Close blinds and curtains so people can’t see in
❗Check all windows, doors, pet doors, garage, and sheds are locked and hide away any tools or equipment
❗Put your car in your driveway to make it look like someone is home, but make sure it’s locked!
❗Leave your porch light on and install a motion-activated floodlight in your yard.
❗Take copies of all your important documents, such as insurance contact information and personal documents, just in case something does happen.
❗Invest in a safe and put all valuables and important papers in there before you leave
❗Remember to set your security alarm system if you have one. Test your system before leaving to ensure it is functioning correctly. ❗If you do have pet sitters or cleaners visiting, ensure they know how to set the alarm system when they leave
